RONALD REAGAN and HOLLYWOOD STARS
Academy Award program from 1958, with a collection of autographs personally collected at the event. Signers include Cary Grant, Bob Hope, Bette Davis, Fred Astaire, Sandra Giles and many other top-flight Hollywood stars.
Program signed: "Ronald Reagan", "Mel Ferrer", "Fred Astaire" on the acknowledgments page; "Sandra Giles", "Ann Blyth", "Johnny/Washbrook" on the sponsorship page; and "Ermest/Borgnine", "Debbie/Reynolds", "Bob Wagner", "Natalie Wood Wagner", "Bette Davis", "Bob Hope", "Fess Parker", "Cyd/Charisse", "Cary Grant", "David/Niven" and 1 unidentified signer on a blank page. In all 17 signers. 12Pages, 9x12. Academy Awards Presentation Program for 1958 (30th annual event), RKO Pantages Theatre, March 26, 1958. Program acquired from an owner who, as a teenager in 1958, sneaked with a friend into the Pentages Theatre, hid in the women's restroom, obtained a program left there, and ventured into the lobby, where they secured this impressive list of autographs before being expelled by a security guard. While this collection of stars includes many Oscar winners, one of whom had a rather successful second career as California Governor and US President, none of the signers won an Oscar at this ceremony. But seven of them were presenters that night (ASTAIRE, BORGNINE, CHARISSE, DAVIS, GABLE, GRANT and REAGAN) while two sang Oscar-nominated songs at the ceremony: BLYTH in an ensemble on "April Love," and REYNOLDS on her own hit, "Tammy." All the names on this program are well known to fans of Hollywood, except perhaps for JOHNNY WASHBROOK (b. 1944), who starred in the TV series My Friend Flicka (1956-1957) and made TV guest appearances through the 1960s. His last appearance was in the British film The Mayfair Bank Caper (1979), which starred another signer here, DAVID NIVEN. A fine souvenir from the golden age of Hollywood! Multiple mailing folds. Corners worn and creased. Edges worn and creased. Lightly toned at edges. Multiple rips and notches at edges (not effecting signatures). Otherwise, fine condition.
