RONALD REAGAN
Ronald Reagan signs a quotation in blue ink.
Quotation Signed: "Ronald Reagan", 6½x5½ light blue card. In full: "Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate!/Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" The presidential seal has been printed in color in the upper left and a color photograph of President Reagan speaking at the Brandenburg Gate, West Berlin, Germany, on June 12, 1987, has been printed in the lower right. While this speech was delivered to the people of West Berlin, it was also audible on the East side of the Berlin wall. President Reagan said, in part: "We welcome change and openness; for we believe that freedom and security go together, that the advance of human liberty can only strengthen the cause of world peace. There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! MR. GORBACHEV, OPEN THIS GATE! MR. GORBACHEV, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!" Printed on verso is the Republican elephant logo above the text: "A/Dinner/In Honor Of/The Honorable/Ronald Reagan/Governor Of The State Of California/The Olympic Hotel/Seattle, Washington/November 5, 1971".
