RONALD REAGAN
Writing to Hollywood friend and political supporter Phil Regan, he promises to arrange a weekend get-together whenever his busy schedule as Governor allows it. Typed letter with lengthy handwritten postscript.
Typed Letter signed: "Ron" as Governor of California, 1 page, 7¼x10½. Sacramento, California, 1971 May 11. On official letterhead to Phil Regan, Pasadena, California. In full: "Just a line to acknowledge your letter and all your kind comments. It was good of you to take the time. I like your idea of getting together and hope it will soon be possible. The problem is that my schedule is usually just as hectic when I'm in Los Angeles as it is up here. Warm regards. Sincerely". Reagan's autograph postscript: "I didn't mean the above to sound like we can't do it (get together); when I dictated that I was looking at the schedule which doesn't show any free weekends for some time to come in L. A. I'll get in touch the 1st opening when I don't have to stay up here."  During his days in Hollywood, Ronald Reagan made friends with Phil Regan, a former New York City police officer with a fine tenor voice who found a niche in Warner Bros. films as "the Singing Cop." In 1966 Regan, a staunch Democrat, headed Democrats for Reagan during the future President's first campaign for Governor of California. The two remained friends, even after Regan was implicated in a bribery scandal and served two years in prison in the mid-1970s. As President, Reagan received some genealogical research from the Irish government and discovered that he and Phil Regan shared a common ancestor. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly creased. Corners creased. Minor unknown stains on verso (light show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
