RONALD REAGAN Letter on White House stationery to the Sisco sisters in California: "Family is so important." Typed Letter signed: "Ronald Reagan", 1 page, 6¾x9. Washington, D.C., 1985 June 7. On White House letterhead to Misses Sam and Bertha Sisco, Healdsburg, California. In full: "I'm so sorry that I hadn't responded to your April 12 letter. The tags have been signed and are being returned with this letter. It is good to hear that you have been getting along so well with Gene. Family is so important. I will send a nice letter to Heather Lee for her graduation and birthday, as you requested. Nancy and I appreciate all you have done for us in the past, and we really don't want you to go to any more trouble to make anything for us for Christmas." While Governor of California, Ronald Reagan was contacted by sisters Samueline (b. 1927) and Bertha Sisco (1913-1998), who were caring for their mentally handicapped brother Joseph "Buzzy" Sisco, and needed assistance but wished to be as self-reliant as possible. Reagan helped the Siscos, even sending them his own rocking chair, and struck up a friendship. The Sisco sisters made finely crafted leather goods. Reagan, who received some of their wares as gifts, promoted them among local merchants. As this letter attests, Reagan did not forget the Sisco family when he reached the White House.  Buzzy Sisco had died in 1984. Top edge and bottom left corner creased. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition. Previously authenticated by PSA/DNA.
