In full: "On September 9, Californians celebrated the 120th
anniversary of the admission of our state into the Union, On that date in 1850,
President Millard Fillmore signed the bill which had been passed by the
31st Congress to admit California as the 31st state of the Union. Through the
generosity of the Wine Growers of California, we are pleased to have you share
in the historical celebration with us with this gift of fine California wines. I
hope you will enjoy them." Ronald Wilson Reagan (1911-2004) served as
Governor of California from 1967-1975. California had been admitted to the
Union as a free state on September 9, 1850, giving free states a majority in the
Senate. This was a concession to the North and was one of five bills that became
known as the Compromise of 1850 signed into law in September and delaying the
Civil War. Dot-like raised impressions in blank left margin, else fine
condition.
