THEODORE ROOSEVELT
Theodore Roosevelt sends a letter of thanks to be passed on.
Typed Letter Signed: "Theodore Roosevelt" as President, 1p, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1908 February 10. To Massachusetts Governor Curtis Guild, Jr. In full: "I think that is very touching. I always feel about such adherents just the way that you do. Will you give Mr. Fitzwilliams my warm regards, and tell him that I appreciate both the song and the letter and value his friendship and goodwill, and that I shall try to continue to deserve them by my public actions? I look forward to seeing you ten days hence. Ever yours." Roosevelt and Guild were classmates at Harvard and were both in the Class of 1880. Guild's father accompanied Vice Presidential nominee Roosevelt on his Western Trip in 1900, and more than once when Roosevelt lost his voice completely, Guild had to speak for him. CURTIS GUILD, JR. served as Governor of Massachusetts from 1906-1909 and Special Minister to Russia (1911-1913). Signature shows light smudging. Folds, vertical fold runs between "eo" in Theodore. File holes at upper margin. Slightly soiled.
