THEODORE ROOSEVELT
Theodore Roosevelt sends a typed letter to Samuel D. Moffett saying that he has read his pamphlet and is looking forward to discussing it with him.
Typed Letter Signed: "Theodore Roosevelt" as President, 1p, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1907 June 2. To Samuel D. Moffett at Collier's Weekly, New York, N.Y. In full: "I have already read your pamphlet half thru, and find it extremely interesting. I look forward to seeing you and talking it over with you." Peter Collier founded the periodical, "Collier's Once a Week" in April, 1888. It was advertised as a magazine of "fiction, fact, sensation, wit, humor, news". In 1895, its name was changed to "Collier's Weekly: An Illustrated Journal". Investigative articles in Collier's brought many social problems to light. President Roosevelt responded by initiating legislation that would help tackle some of those problems, persuading Congress to pass reforms such as the Pure Food and Drug Act (1906) and the Meat Inspection Act (1906). Lightly rippled. Fine condition.
