PRESIDENT THEODORE ROOSEVELT - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 07/15/1901 - HFSID 157689
Price: $2,250.00
THEODORE ROOSEVELT
Written during his six and a half month Vice Presidential term.
Scarce Typed Letter Signed: "Theodore Roosevelt" as McKinley's
Vice President, 1p, 7¾x10. On stationery of "The Vice President's
Chamber/Washington, D.C.", but written from Oyster Bay, N.Y., 1901 July
15. Just four and a half months after becoming Vice President, Roosevelt
writes Mr. E.E. Garrison, St. Louis, Mo., from his Sagamore Hill, Long Island,
home. In full: "I am in receipt of your letter of the 12th inst. I do
not know any of the Colts' people, but I hope it is unnecessary to say how
cordially I will back you if you give me the chance. Can you not get some one to
write me asking that I write the Colts people about you? That will give me an
excuse for sending it writing to them at once." Two months
later, Roosevelt was sworn in as 26th President following the assassination of
President McKinley. The word "writing" is in TR's hand. Staple holes in
upper left blank area. Lightly soiled in blank areas. Creased. Folds, one just
touching the last "e" in Theodore. Two tackhead-size black stains
at left blank margin.
