Signature on a printed card with Finnish crest
Signature: "Urho Kekkonen", 4½x1¾ card with gilt-embossed Finnish crest at upper left. Urho Kekkonen was Prime Minister of Finland (1950-1953, 1954-1956) and President (1956-1982), the longest Presidency in Finland's history. He had held many Cabinet positions from the late 1930s, including Justice Minister and Foreign Minister. Kekkonen was no figurehead President in the manner of many parliamentary governments. His power usually exceeded that of his Prime Ministers, a situation that prompted changes in Finland's constitution after his time. Kekkonen was accused of an autocratic style, but successfully maintained a policy of "active neutrality" between Eastern and Western blocs, trading with both while avoiding military alignment. Light, pinhead-size stains in blank areas. Fine condition.
