VACLAV KLAUSThe conservative Prime Minister of the Czech Republic signed this black and white 3½x5 photograph of him donning a coat and tie Photograph Signed: “Vaclav Klaus” in black ink. 3½x5. B/w. Actual size 3½x4¾ with a white border along bottom edge (one surface). Vaclav Klaus (b. 1941) is a Czech politician who was born in Prague during the Nazi occupation. He graduated from the University of Economics in Prague in 1963, later spending time at Cornell University. He joined the Velvet Revolution in 1989. This movement sought to topple the ruling Communist regime by unifying opposition forces. In December of 1989, Klaus was named the new government's Minister of Finance. As a supporter of a capitalist economy, he founded the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), which gained control of the Czech Republican government in the 1992 election. He was named Prime Minister of the Czech Republic that year. After the dissolution of the Czechoslovakian region into the new nations of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, he was named the first Prime Minister of the Czech Republic in 1993. Vaclav Klaus later served as President of the country from 2003-2013. Note on verso in unknown impressed through to image. Otherwise, fine condition.
