Appointment of Harvey T. Goodier of New York as Interpreter at the Consulate at Nagoya, Japan. Goodier later served as U.S. Consul. HUGHES had served as Governor of New York (1907-1910) when Taft appointed him Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. After resigning to run for President in 1916, Hughes served as Secretary of State (1921-1925) before Hoover returned Hughes to the Supreme Court as Chief Justice (1930-1941). Embossed, 2¼-inch seal at lower left. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 39x21½.
