WARREN G. HARDING
Filled out and signed twice by the 35-year-old newspaper publisher.
Partly Printed Document Signed (twice): "W G Harding", 1p, 8x4. Marion, Ohio, 1901 January 26. In full: "Proof of Publication. W.G. Harding, of lawful age, being sworn, says that a printed notice, a copy of which is hereunto attached, was published for three consecutive weeks in The Marion Star, a newspaper published and in general circulation in said Marion County, immediately previous to the 17th day of November A.D., 1899, and that at the time he was pub of said paper." The notice relates to creditors of the New York Tea Store, which Harding misspells in the notice as "Yea Store". Harding was 18 when he became Editor and Publisher of "The Marion Star" in 1884 and continued as Publisher while he was 29th U.S. President. The day he left Washington for his ill-fated Western trip in June 1923, it was announced that he planned to sell his newspaper. Paper clip impression at left of upper margin. Embossed seal touches second signature. Overall, fine condition.
