WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT
18x23 photograph inscribed in 1915 to a school principal, framed in the Gallery of History style to 28x41.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "For C. Herbert Walling Supervising Principal of Schools/Rockaway/New Jersey/with Best wishes/Wm H Taft/February 1st 1915/New Haven". Sepia, 18½x23 overall, 14x16¾ image (one surface). "Copyright 1908/by Moffett Studio". A superb image taken as President-elect but signed after his term (1909-1913), while Taft was Kent Chair Professor of Constitutional Law at Yale (1913-1921). William Howard Taft (1857-1930) was the 27th U.S. President. The hand picked successor of Theodore Roosevelt, Taft lost his bid for a second term in a three-way race between Democratic candidate Woodrow Wilson and Progressive Party candidate Roosevelt. Taft, who became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in 1921, served until February 3, 1930, a few weeks before his death. Oversized signed photographs of this proportion are very rare. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 28½x41½.
