WILLIAM H. TAFT
William Taft sends an address of historical interest in New Haven for publication.
Typed Letter Signed: "Wm H Taft", 1p, 7x9¼. New Haven, Conn., 1914 June 4. To
Robert Lincoln O'Brien, Boston Herald, Boston. In full: "I enclose [not present] an
address of some historical interest on the New Haven Green, delivered to-day at the
laying of the corner stone of the new New Haven Post Office, for publication of part of it,
or all of it, or none of it, as you think it would have interest. My impression is that people
interested in city planning generally will note some facts worthy of their attention and not
generally known." O'BRIEN was editor of the "Boston Herald" and later chairman of the
United States Tariff Commission. President from 1909-1913, TAFT was a law professor at
Yale from 1913-1921, serving as Chief Justice from 1921-1930. Pencil note (unknown hand)
on verso. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
