PRESIDENT WILLIAM H. TAFT - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 09/30/1927 - HFSID 33094
Price: $500.00
WILLIAM H. TAFT
Sends birthday wishes to a noted geologist.
Typed Letter
Signed: "Wm H Taft" as Chief
Justice, 1p, 5¾x7¾. Supreme Court of the United
States, Washington, D.C., 1927 September 30. To Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn,
American Museum of Natural History, New York. In full: "Turn about is
fair play. I congratulate you on your seventieth birthday, and sincerely hope
that you will confute the Psalmist's limitation by many years. With best wishes
to Mrs. Osborn, believe me, as always, with great respect and admiration."
Just 15 days earlier, on September 15, 1927, Taft celebrated his 70th
birthday. He evidently received congratulations from DR. OSBORN, who was
President of New York's American Museum of Natural History from 1908-1933.
Under his leadership, the museum's scientific staff, facilities and endowments
were greatly expanded. Coincidentally, Taft, the first President to throw out
the first pitch of the baseball season, has written this letter on the very day
Babe Ruth hit his 60th home run! Paper clip impression at upper blank
margin. Slightly shaded at blank margins. Overall, fine
condition.
