William H. Taft sends a typed letter of introduction for one of his former students.
Typed Letter Signed: "Wm H Taft" as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, 1p, 8x10½. Supreme Court of the United States, Washington, D.C., 1924 October 2. To Cyrus H.K. Curtis, Philadelphia. In full: "Mr. Francis E. Lowell, who is now, I believe, the head of the Devon School, has written to me to ask me to introduce him to you. Mr. Lowell was one of my students at Yale, and was a very good one. I don't know the purpose of his visit to you, but I know him to be a man of energy, a man of intellectual parts, and a man who would not occupy your time unduly. I hope, therefore, you will give him an opportunity to say what he has to say". CYRUS H.K. CURTIS (1850-1933) headed Curtis Publishing Co., publishers of, among others, "Ladies' Home Journal" and the "Saturday Evening Post". He had purchased the New York "Evening Post" on January 1, 1924, returning its editorial support to the Republican Party. TAFT, who was Professor of Law at Yale from 1913-1921, is the only U.S. President (1909-1913) to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court (1921-1930). Folds, vertical fold touches "f" in Taft. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
