WILLIAM H. TAFT
William H. Taft sends a letter of regret that he will not be able to participate in the annual meeting of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences.
Typed Letter Signed: "Wm H Taft" as President, 1p, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1909 December 9. To Dr. L.S. Rowe, President, American Academy of Political & Social Science, Philadelphia. In full: "I have yours of December 7th, in which you ask me to take part in the Fourteenth annual meeting of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences, April 8 and 9, 1910. I regret very much that my time will be so much occupied as to make it impossible for me to be present. I thank the members of the Academy for their invitation, and hope their meeting may be in every way successful. Sincerely yours," Now in its 114th year, the American Academy of Political and Social Science was founded in Philadelphia on December 14, 1889. Twenty-two people including members of the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania created the organization to promote the progress of the social sciences. They also sought to create a forum to discuss the contemporary political, economic and social issues. The Annals, the Academy's bimonthly journal, and the Academy's annual meetings, symposia and special publications have served as vehicles through which these objectives have been achieved. Lightly creased. Folds, vertical fold touches "m" in Wm and the "H". Overall, fine condition.
