engraved at upper margin. Engraved at lower margin: "President Clinton's 50th Birthday
Celebration/Sunday August 18, 1996". Scarce Presidential gift given to VIPs and large
contributors. Bill Clinton, the 42nd U.S. President (1993-2001), had been born William
Jefferson Blythe IV on August 19, 1946, three months after his father died in an automobile
accident. His widowed mother, Virginia Dell Cassidy Blythe (1923-1994) married Roger
Clinton (1909-1967) in 1950. Bill was legally adopted by his stepfather that same year.
Formerly Governor of Arkansas (1979-1981, 1983-1992), Clinton was the first Democrat
reelected President since FDR, and he was the only elected U.S. President to be
impeached. On November 5, 1996, less than three months after his 50th birthday
celebration, Clinton was elected to his second term in office, defeating Republican Robert
Dole by 47,400,125-39,198,775 popular votes and 379-159 electoral votes. In original box.
