PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. "BILL" CLINTON - INSCRIBED PAMPHLET SIGNED 2002 - HFSID 272431
Price: $800.00
BILL CLINTON
Bill Clinton inscribes a pamphlet.
Pamphlet inscribed and signed: "To John Kelley/with
appreciation/Bill Clinton/New Year/2002", 16p, 6x9. "Address by William
Jefferson Clinton, Harvard University, November 19, 2001." Clinton's speech, an
overview of the international situation, concludes with these words: "In short,
we all have to change. The world's poor cannot be led by people like Mr. bin
Laden who think they can find their redemption in our destruction. But the
world's rich cannot be led by people who play to our short-sided [sic]
selfishness and pretend that we can forever claim for ourselves what we deny to
others. So my message is this: we live in a world without walls. We will have
to defeat those who want to destroy it. We will have to do more to help
everybody become a part of it. But most important, in our hearts we must make
the world a home for all its children." Governor of Arkansas (1979-1981,
1983-1992), Bill Clinton was the first Democrat reelected President since
FDR. He served from 1993-2001 and was the only elected U.S. President to
be impeached. On February 12, 1999, President Clinton was acquitted on both
articles of impeachment brought against him: charges of perjury and obstruction
of justice. Clinton's popularity stood at 67% at the end of his trial, however.
Obviously, many Americans were willing to overlook his personal failings in an
era of peace and prosperity. Nor was his support based solely on personal charm.
His accomplishments in office included a waiting period for gun purchases
(the Brady Law), the Family and Medical Leave Act, the North American Free Trade
Agreement, welfare reform and balancing of the federal budget. Fine
condition.
