BILL CLINTON
Bill Clinton sends a typed letter of thanks.
Typed Letter Signed: "Bill" as 42nd U.S. President, 1p,
6¾x8¾. Washington, D.C., 2000 May 26. On embossed White House letterhead
to The Honorable Daniel P. Moynihan, United States Senate, Washington, D.C.
Headed: "Personal". Begins: "Dear Pat". In full:
"I was glad to receive the copy of Secrecy with your kind inscription.
Your continued thoughtfulness means a lot to me, and I send my best. I hope to
see you soon." Former Governor of Arkansas (1979-1981, 1983-1992)
BILL CLINTON was the first Democrat reelected President since FDR.
He served from 1993-2001 and was the only elected U.S. President to be
impeached. On February 12, 1999, President Clinton was acquitted on both
articles of impeachment brought against him: charges of perjury and obstruction
of justice. Clinton's popularity stood at 67% at the end of his trial, however.
Obviously, many Americans were willing to overlook his personal failings in an
era of peace and prosperity. Nor was his support based solely on personal charm.
His accomplishments in office included a waiting period for gun purchases (the
Brady Law), the Family and Medical Leave Act, the North American Free Trade
Agreement, welfare reform and balancing of the federal budget. FROM THE
ESTATE OF SENATOR DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN. Democrat Moynihan (1927-2003)
represented New York in the U.S. Congress from 1977-2001. A prolific
author, he served in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy,
Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Moynihan's book, Secrecy, was published in
1998. Slightly creased. Inventory numbers stamped at left margin. Fine
condition.
