Reappointment of Selden Connor of Portland, Maine, as Pension Agent at Augusta, Maine "to take effect April 6, 1901, at expiration of his term of office of four years". In the Civil War, SELDEN CONNER (1839-1917) saw action at the battles of Fredericksburg (slight wound), Gettysburg and the Wilderness (thigh-bone was shattered by a bullet). He was commissioned Brigadier General in June 1864, but was incapacitated for active service because of his wound. A Republican, Conner was Governor of Maine from 1876-1879. He was first appointed U.S. Pension Agent in 1882 by President Arthur, serving until 1886. Lightly creased. 4¾x3-inch light shading at lower right corner touches "McKinley". Folds, vertical fold touches "A" in Hitchcock's signature.
