WOODROW WILSON and S. D. DICKINSON. Partly Printed DS: "Woodrow Wilson" as Governor of New Jersey, "S. D. Dickinson", as New Jersey Secretary of State 1p, 8½x14. Trenton, New Jersey, 1912 March 12. Extradition order for Achille Pretrobuono. In full: "Woodrow Wilson, Governor of the State of New Jersey, on behalf of the said State as Executive authority thereof doth hereby appoint WALTER GODFREY to remove into his custody ACHILLE PRETROBUONO a fugitive from justice from the State of New Jersey, being charged with the crime of ASSAULT AND BATTERY WITH INTENT TO KILL committed in the County of ESSEX requiring and authorizing him safely to keep the said ACHILLE PRETROBUONO and convey him to the State of New Jersey, there to be dealt with according to law. In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of New Jersey to be affixed at Trenton this twelfth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and 12." Woodrow WILSON was serving as President of Princeton University (1902-1910, the first layman to hold the position) when he was nominated by the Democrats as their candidate for Governor of New Jersey. He resigned on October 23, 1910, was elected on November 8, 1910 and was inaugurated as Governor on January 17, 1911. Wilson served as Governor from 1911-1913, when he took office as President of the United States (1913-1921). DICKINSON, a Republican, was first elected Secretary of State in 1902. 3¼-inch diameter blue seal affixed at lower left. Lightly soiled. Folds, lower horizontal fold touches the upper portion of the Secretary of State's signature and nicks the lower flourish of the "n" in Wilson. Tears at left and right horizontal folds. Overall, fine condition.
