WOODROW WILSON
The Democratic presidential nominee will not be able to plant a tree in Washington, D.C.
Typed Letter Signed: "Woodrow Wilson" as Governor of New Jersey, 1p, 8x10. Sea Girt, New Jersey, 1912 August 16. To Mr. George A. Armes, Washington, D.C. In full: "I have been very much disturbed by statements in the papers that I was expecting to take part in the planting of a tree on your place at some future time. I appreciated your courtesy in extending the invitation to me but you will remember that I did not accept, and I am very sure that it will not be possible for me to do so. I beg that you will take any proper occasion to correct this misunderstanding." On July 2, 1912, at the Democratic National Convention, New Jersey Governor Woodrow Wilson received his party's nomination for President. In the November 5, 1912 election, Wilson defeated both former President Theodore Roosevelt and incumbent President William H. Taft to become the first Democrat elected President in 20 years. Lightly creased. Folds, vertical fold touches the "W" in Woodrow and the "n" in Wilson. Lightly stained at blank right margin. Overall, fine condition.
