Governor Wilson cannot visit with Boy Scouts.
Typed Letter Signed: "Woodrow Wilson" as Governor of New
Jersey, 1p, 8x9½. Executive Department, (Trenton), 1911 August 21. To
William P. Woods, Lewistown, Pennsylvania. In full: "You may be sure
that I would reserve a date for the Boy Scouts during the autumn if it were
possible for me to reserve a date for anybody; but unhappily, I have already
involved myself in so many engagements that I could not, without an actual
neglect of public duties, take on others." Wilson had been sworn in as
Governor of New Jersey, his first elective office, on January 7, 1911.
The Boy Scouts of America had been chartered on February 6, 1910, while
Wilson was President of Princeton University (1902-1910). Lightly creased
particularly at upper left corner. Horizontal fold touches tops of "W"s,
vertical fold through "d" of "Woodrow". Fine condition.
