THEODORE ROOSEVELT The President signs a rare and extraordinarily large engraving after his Nobel-Prize winning peace efforts. Annotated Engraving Signed, "Theodore Roosevelt" October 13, 1905. The entire engraving takes the view of Roosevelt in a large, overscale oval portraiture, presidential view, framed in an oval border, hanging on a wall over the mantle of a fireplace - the result leaves a magnificent impression. 19x25 visible. Roosevelt has signed at the bottom center for Charles Francis, his minister to Austria-Hungary: "To Hon. Charles S. Francis with the regards of Theodore Roosevelt Oct. 13th 1905." This engraving is Copy #25 of a very limited edition issue. Roosevelt signed and annotated this portrait just one month after successfully completing negotiations at the Treaty of Portsmouth, which ended the war between Russian and Japan. Roosevelt's death on April 12, 1945. Faced with the ordeal of ending WWII, Truman oversaw the surrender of Germany (May 7) and ordered the atomic bombings on Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9). He fought the Cold War with the Truman Doctrine, a policy granting Greece and Turkey $400 million in economic and military aid to help them fight Communist aggression. By the end of 1945, Truman had introduced economic measures that would become part of his Fair Deal program. As a result, the minimum wage was increased from 40 to 
JAMES EARL "JIMMY" CARTER Carter read this speech at the 1976 Democratic National Convention in New York, where he accepted the party's nomination for presidential candidate. He went on from here to become 39th President of the United States. Typed speech unsigned, with handwritten notes, under linings and corrections in blue ink and notations near left edge of page 1 in black ink in unknown hand, 5 pages, 8½x11. This is a speech that Carter gave at the 1976 Democratic National Convention, which met in Madison Square Garden from July 12 to July 15, 1976. Carter was named Democratic candidate for President at this convention, and Walter Mondale was named his Vice President. The nomination represented a dramatic reversal of fortune for Carter, a peanut farmer who had been elected Governor of Georgia in 1971 but who otherwise started the nomination process as an obscure candidate with little name recognition. However, favorable media coverage helped him win the New Hampshire primary, and Carter used his obscurity to his advantage, marketing himself as a fresh face and Washington outsider.

For nearly two years of his first term, President Wilson worked to maintain America's neutrality and to mediate between the warring European nations.
