Inscribed photograph signed: "To Harry -/This one/directed by/one
of our greatest/Wild Bill Wellman/Preston", in blue ink, B/w 9¾x8. Stage,
screen and television actor Preston Foster (1900-1970) appeared on
Broadway (1928-1932) before making his film debut in Pusher-in-the
Face in 1929. A "he man" actor in Western and action films in the 1930s
and 1940s, Foster's credits include Doctor X (1932), The
All-American (1932), I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932), The
Band Plays On (1934), The Last Days of Pompeii (1935), Annie
Oakley (1935), Geronimo (1939), My Friend Flicka
(1943), Tangier (1946), Three Desperate Men (1951), The
Time Travelers (1964) and Chubasco (1968, his last film). He also
appeared on several TV series, from Cameo Theatre (1950) to 77
Sunset Strip (1964). The multitalented Foster was also a composer,
songwriter, guitarist and author. His two best known songs are "Good Ship
Lalapaloo" and "Two Shillelagh O'Sullivan". Pin holes in corners. Corners worn
and creased. Toned. Ink note (unknown hand) on bottom margin. Surface creases
and striations (not seen head on), esp. at top margin. Lightly soiled. Ink
stamps on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
