DAVID BEN-GURION
As Defense Minister, he signs a typed letter to Interior Minister Israel Rokach urging that he promptly approve a permit for construction of housing for unmarried soldiers.
TLS: "D. Ben-Gurion" in Hebrew as Defense Minister, 1 page, 5¾x8. Kiryat, 1955 March 11. To Israel Rokach, Interior Minister. Noted that a copy was sent to Prime Minister Moshe Sharett. In full: "For whatever reason, there is a delay in your office in approving the appropriate permit for the building of a hostel for soldiers without families which was supposed to have been built on the sand dunes near the Yarkon. Because of the urgency of this matter, I would like to ask you to approve the above mentioned permit and it is really unnecessary to emphasize the importance that we attach to soldiers without families and new immigrants who have no means of accommodation who have come to us." DAVID Ben-Gurion served as first Prime Minister of Israel from 1948-1953 and 1955-1963. Moshe Sharett was Prime Minister from 1953 to November 2, 1955, when Ben-Gurion returned to power. ISRAEL ROKACH was Minister of the Interior from 1952-1955. In 1980, his daughter Livia Rokach wrote a controversial book Israel's Sacred Terrorism: A Study Based on Moshe Sharett's Personal Diary and Other Documents which was published by the Association of Arab American University Graduates. Two loose-leaf holes in blank right margin. Lightly creased. Erased pencil notes at lower blank margin. Note in red pencil at lower right margin (unknown hand). Folds. Overall, fine condition.
