Typed Letter signed: "D. Ben-Gurion", 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1973
November 1. On personal letterhead to Major-General Julius Klein, Chicago,
Illinois. In full: "I thank you for your letter dated October 10, 1973
and for the material you were so kind to forward to me. With best wishes,
Yours". Israel became independent on May 14, 1948. On that day, David
Ben-Gurion (1886-1973) became the Chairman of the Provisional State Council, a
post he held until May 17th, when Chaim Weizmann became Head of the Council and
Ben-Gurion became Prime Minister. Ben-Gurion was Israeli Prime Minister from
May 17, 1948 to December 7, 1953 and from November 2, 1955 to June 21, 1963.
"Time" magazine called him "part Washington, part Moses...the architect of a new
nation". Ben-Gurion died on December 1, 1973. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled.
Staple holes in upper left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
