GEORGES BIDAULT. Signature: "Bidault14 juillet [July 14]
1953" as Ambassador to the United States, 5¼x3¼ printed card. A vocal
critic of the Munich Agreement (1938) and a leader of the French Resistance
to German occupation during World War II, Bidault (1899-1983) joined
DeGaulle's Cabinet after liberation. He later served as Prime Minister (1946,
1949-50) and Foreign Secretary (1944, 1947-48, 1953-54). After
breaking with DeGaulle and advocating forcible resistance to Algerian
independence, Bidault lived in exile in Brazil for five years (1963-1968).
Slightly soiled. Pencil note (unknown hand) in lower left. Mounting tape remnant
on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
