Signed card with imprinted seal of Australia, mounted on a page which also bears clippings and an unusual notation by the original collector
Signature: "John Gorton", 3½x2 card. Mounted on a 3½x7¾ sheet with portions of sheets affixed (5 surfaces) including: newspaper clippings and a four-line identification of Gorton by a collector. John Gorton (1911-2002) was Prime Minister of Australia from 1968-1971. He served in many Cabinet posts, including Navy, Works, Interior, Education and Defense. Disliking his successor, Gorton retired from Parliament in 1975. A member of the Liberal Party (most of the time), he was something of a maverick, adopted as his theme the Frank Sinatra song "I Did It My Way." Gorton, who had become a fighter pilot in World War II after the age limitation was relaxed, was knighted in 1977. "ort" of Gorton smudged but legible. Light vertical fold touches the "Go" in Gorton. Ink note (unknown hand) on mounting sheet. Otherwise, fine condition.
