with my best wishes." Menachem Begin joined the National Unity government of
Israel (1967-1970) as a Minister without portfolio until August 4, 1970 then
becoming Joint Chairman of the new Likud ("Unity") coalition. When the Likud
Party won the national elections in 1977, Begin became Prime Minister, serving
from 1977-1983. Prodded by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Begin negotiated with
Egyptian President Anwar Sadat for peace in the Middle East and reached two
agreements known as the Camp David Accords (September 17, 1978). A peace treaty
between Israel and Egypt was signed on March 26, 1979. Begin and Sadat shared
the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize. Folds, not at signature. Lightly creased.
