Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres (1923-2016) acted as Prime Minister from April
22 to June 21, 1977, between the ministries of Yitzhak Rabin and Menachem Begin, and then
served as Prime Minister (1984-1986) and Foreign Minister (1986-1988) in a coalition
government with Yitzhak Shamir. Under Rabin, from 1992-1995, he was again Foreign
Minister. When Prime Minister Rabin was assassinated on November 4, 1995, Peres
succeeded him, serving until he was defeated by Benjamin Netanyahu on June 18, 1996.
When Ariel Sharon became Prime Minister on March 7, 2001, Peres returned to his position
of Foreign Minister. On December 10, 1994, Peres, Rabin and Palestine Liberation
Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the
framework for peace signed at the White House in 1993. Fine condition.
