PRIMO CARNERA (1906-1967) was World Heavyweight Champion from 1933-1934. He won the title by knocking out Jack Sharkey in the sixth round in Madison Square Garden on June 29, 1933. He lost the title on June 14, 1934 in Madison Square Garden when he was knocked out by Max Baer in the 11th round. JOAN TURNER (1922-2009) was a British soprano and stand-up comic who performed in music halls from 1937. Joining the comedy ensemble The Crazy Gang in 1954, she soon became one of its stars. Described as having "the voice of an angel, the wit of the devil," she was one of Britain's highest paid female stars of the 1960s and 1970s, with her own TV and radio programs. In 1963 she was top billed at the Royal Variety Show, ahead of The Beatles! Beset with alcohol and gambling problems, Turner declared bankruptcy in 1977, but made a successful comeback. Yet in 2001 she was found destitute in a Los Angeles homeless shelter. Back in England, she rallied before her death to write a touching autobiography, I Thought It Grew on Trees. Jagged at left edge. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
