PRINCESS GRACE KELLY
Black and white photo of the Princess holding an umbrella, inscribed to the actress who played her mother in To Catch a Thief
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Roycie-/with love-/Grace-." B/w, 8x10. Twenty-seven-year-old Academy Award-winning actress Grace Kelly retired from films after marrying reigning Prince Rainier of Monaco in April 1956. Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco had three children, Princess Caroline (1957), Prince Albert (1958) and Princess Stephanie (1965). Princess Grace, beloved in her country for her charity work, most notably as head of Monaco's Red Cross, was killed in an automobile accident in September 1982. The "Roycie" to whom she inscribed this photo was Jesse Royce Landis (1904-1972), stage and screen character actress who played Grace Kelly's mother in To Catch a Thief (1955), and also "Thief" co-star Cary Grant's mother in another Alfred Hitchcock classic, North by Northwest (1959). Speckled from flaws in original printing. Slightly creased.
