Slightly creased at upper edge. Lightly soiled on verso. Fine condition.
Accompanied by printed DS with imprinted signature of "Annabelle
Wiener" for the World Federation of United Nations Associations, 1p,
8½x14. United Nations, New York City, 1981 May 1. Headed: "Print
Documentation". The sheet provides information on the purpose of the lithograph,
which accompanied the United Nations stamp issue, "New and Renewable
Sources of Energy", issued on May 29, 1981. In addition to providing lithograph
number, size, paper and edition size, the sheet also provides the following
authentication: "Embossed seals of both the Federation and Siena Studios in New
York where this lithograph was prepared. Both seals appear in the lower right
margin." The sheet also gives a "Note on Mixed Media Graphic", stating:
"In order to accentuate the depth and beauty of the flowers in this pressed
flower collage, and to do full justice to the unusual treatment given to the
theme by her Serene Highness Princess Grace, the Federation's limited edition
art print of this magnificent design is a 'MIXED MEDIA GRAPHIC', a combination
of lithography, silk screen, and hand embossing. The delicate flowers are set on
a completely gold background without any borders. This print is signed in the
plate only with the initials G.P.K., the official signature used by Her Serene
Highness on Her works of art." Brief background on the art of Princess Grace
at lower portion. In part: "Princess Grace of Monaco, formerly the
actress Grace Kelly, is an acknowledged expert on flowers. She
organised the first Garden Club of Monaco over ten years ago and is both
a judge of flowers and an artist. Her Serene Highness has had several
exhibitions and sales of Her delightful flower pictures. Her design for the
Federation represents Her second venture into the world of philately - in
1977 two of Her pressed flower pictures were used on postage stamps of
Monaco...Her Serene Highness' delicate flower collage for the Federation is
composed of clusters of lavender and rose anemones set on a gold background and
joined by a continuous branch of fragile field flowers from the hills of
Monaco." Lightly creased at upper right margin. ¼-inch tear at upper right
margin, nicked at upper left margin. Fine condition. Twenty-seven-year-old
Academy Award-winning actress Grace Kelly retired from films after marrying
reigning Prince Rainier of Monaco in April 1956. The royal couplehad
three children, Princess Caroline (1957), Prince Albert (1958) and Princess
Stephanie (1965). Princess Grace, beloved in her country for her charity
work, most notably as head of Monaco's Red Cross, was killed in an
automobile accident in September 1982. Fine condition.
