PRISCILLA BONNER
The actress pens a letter to a former teacher on two 3x5 index cards
Autograph Letter signed: “Priscilla Bonner”, in blue ink, on front and verso of two 5x3 index cards. 12 February 1991. To “My very dear Mr. Fred”. In full:Fred Firssell - / This is such a pleasure for me - I remember several of my teachers when I was a very young child. Their faces are clear in my memory and they were the fountain of all knowledge. I looked at them with such respect and they were a very important person [sic] in my life. They took my hand and guided me and led me in the right path on those first hesitant steps. That is the way all the children you have taught have looked at you and everything you have said is important and they will remember it at some time./ And the path you started. It is filled with books. Books books - / became a reader - all my life, and I am 92 next week. I am still reading./ How very full filling [sic] your life has been./ My sister Marjorie and I were reading The Waverly Novels and even Thomas Hardy when we were children. What fortunate little girls we were. It was our grandfather you guided us [sic]./ My sister grew up and married Malcolm Lowry. Her grandfather had educated her for him and she carried out her destiny./ I have forgotten the picture I made with Jack Hoxie. No memory at all. It wasn't important./ I send you my finest thoughts for the rest of your life and/ God Bless”. Born in Washington, D.C., Priscilla Bonner (1899-1996) appeared in films between 1920 and 1929. A star of the silent screen, she played opposite of Jack Pickford in The Man Who Had Everything (1920), of Lon Chaney, Sr. in Shadows (1922) and of Colleen Moore in April Showers (1922). In 1928, she married and retired from the screen. Her sister, Marjorie Bonner, also appeared in silent films. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
