PRISCILLA DEAN
The actress writes about her husband, Leslie Arnold, who made a historic round the world flight in 1914.
Autograph Letter signed: "Priscilla Dean", 1 page, 5½x8. No place, 1984 July 9. Written to "Dear Mr. Axelrod" in full: "I would be glad to send you some photographs from films I made, along with a one page letter. I wonder if you would be interested in a picture of a historical event. My husband Leslie P. Arnold was one of the first Army flyers in 1924 on the first flight around the world. His plane is in the Smithsonian- and the late Sewell Thomas wrote an interesting book "The First World Flight" after the completion each member autographed it. It is a reproduction. Wishing you much success sincerely." Accompanied by the transmittal envelope, addressed to Mr. Todd M. Axelrod, Las Vegas, Nevada and postmarked Hackensack, New Jersey, July 10, 1984. American stage and silent film actress Priscilla Dean (1896-1988) reached stardom in the serial The Gray Ghost (1917). Other starring roles included The Virgin of Stamboul (1920) and Under Two Flags (1922). Dean appeared in many demanding productions like Beloved Jim, Kiss or Kill, The Wicked Darling, Forbidden, The Conflict, Reputation, White Tiger, Forbidden Waters, Birds of Prey and The Honorable Mr. Buggs. Less successful in the era of sound, she retired in 1932. Her first husband, Leslie Arnold, made an historic round the world flight in 1914. Her second husband, Wheeler Oakman, co-starred with her in several Westerns. Staple holes at top left. Normal mailing fold. Otherwise, fine condition.
