Slip of paper signed with "The bestest of luck" by stage and
silent movie actress Priscilla Dean to Audrey Ovington, daughter of the first
airmail pilot Earle Ovington
Autograph Note signed: "To 'Audrey Ovington'/The bestest of
luck/Priscilla Dean.". With blue ink notations at bottom edge in unknown
hand. 4½x2¼ with perforated top edge. According to the notations at the bottom
edge, Dean signed this slip of paper on Feb. 6, 1929. AUDREY OVINGTON
was thedaughter of EARLE OVINGTON (1879-1936), who became the
first airmail pilot on Sept. 23, 1911, when he carried a load of mail 5 ½ miles
over Long Island in New York. She also operated the Cold Spring Tavern in Santa
Barbara, California, one the first restaurants to serve ranch dressing. American
stage and silent film actress PRISCILLA DEAN (1896-1988) reached
stardom in the serial The Gray Ghost (1917). Other starring roles
included The Virgin of Stamboul (1920) and Under Two Flags (1922).
Her first husband, Leslie Arnold, made an historic round the world flight in
1914. Her second husband, Wheeler Oakman, co-starred with her in several
Westerns. Lightly toned and bowed. Mounting residue on verso (no show-through).
