IRWIN COREY
Notecard card signed by the actor and comedian in black ink
Autograph note signed: "To John/Sincerely/Prof. Irwin Corey". With pencil notations on verso
in unknown hand. 5x2¾. Corey (1912-2017) was an American comedian and actor. Corey
was an orphan who rode the rails to California when he was 13. He made a name for himself
during the 1940s as a stand-up comedian. His shtick was to lecture his audiences like a
college professor, but to fill his "lectures" with non-sequitirs, word play, double talk and
five-dollar words that rarely added up to anything. This act earned him the nickname "the
Professor". Corey also had occasional appearances on Broadway, with his first in Heaven and
Earth (1948) and his latest, as of this biography, in Sly Fox (2004), and roles in 20 movies and
TV shows to his credit between 1956 and 2001. He was also a frequent variety show guest in
the 1960s and 1970s. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
