Autograph pass signed: "P.T. Barnum" (twice), 1p, 8x10. Bridgeport, Conn., 1885 April 11.To "Managers B.B. & H. Show".In full:"Pass Geo. C. Waldo of the Bridgeport Standard and friends, to Madison Square Exhibition best reserved seats & oblige if convenient in my Private Box." SignedPostscript: "Show them everything & let them keep this letter." On stationery of "The Standard Association/Publishers of/The Daily and Weekly Standard" listing "Geo. C. Waldo" as one of the two Editors. In 1881, P.T. Barnum joined promotional forces with James A. Bailey and James L. Hutchinson. "B.B. & H" in the address stood for Barnum Bailey & Hutchinson". Barnum and Bailey went their separate ways later in 1885 but rekindled their business relationship once again in 1888. That year, the Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show On Earth first toured America. Creased with folds, 3 horizontal folds have separated and the letter was reattached on verso. Edges worn. Lightly stained. Ink smudge at the "P" of first signature. 2 other words smudged. Fragile condition.
