QUINCY JONES
Captioned color movie still from MacKenna's Gold, a spectacular action scene
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Jim/In Peace/& Unity/Quincy Jones/3/5/85". Color, 10x8. Captioned movie still from MacKenna's Gold (1969). African-American composer/musician Quincy Jones is an alumnus of both the Berklee School and Boston's Schillinger schools of music. The 17-year-old Jones became a trumpeter/arranger for Dizzy Gillespie, then toured with Lionel Hampton before organizing his own band. He composed jazz-dominated scores for numerous films and television series, and in 1978 he won an Emmy for his work on the monumental miniseries Roots. Jones produced and arranged the blockbuster Michael Jackson video Thriller, which earned him one of his two dozen-plus Grammies. He was honored with the Jean Hersholt humanitarian award at the 1995 Academy Awards celebration. DNA testing revealed that Jones is descended, on his father's side, from inhabitants of a region of Cameroun known for its music, and on his mother's side from a sister of George Washington. Corners lightly creased. Ink marks on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
