The author handwrote, dated and signed this letter in 1924 to G. Wilder, an autograph
hunter!
Autograph Note Signed: "Rafael Sabatini". 1 page, 5x8, on fabric-textured stationery with
engraved Hampstead, London address. March 5, 1924. Addressed to "G. [illegible] Wilder,
Esq.". In full: "[salutation illegible] I respond, with pleasure, to your request for my autograph.
Thus: Youts very truly". Sabatini (1875-1950, born in Jesi, Italy) was a prolific writer of
historical romances and adventures. A master of six languages and the son of globetrotting
parents, he's known for such swashbuckling adventures as The Sea Hawk (1915),
Scaramouche (1921) and Captain Blood (1922), which were adapted numerous times for
the screen. Sabatini published a total of 31 novels, with the first, The Lovers of Yvonne,
published in 1902. But he labored without much success until the publication of
Scaramouche, which made his earlier works, like The Sea Hawk, immensely popular. Lightly
creased. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
