RALPH B. CARTER. TLS: "Ralph B. Carter", 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1975 June 17. To Dean S. Veremakis, Richmond, Virginia. In part: "Regarding my first solo is [sic] was made in July 1911 in a glider we copied after the first Glen Curtis airoplane [sic]. We at first used a horse to pull it into the air and then a motorcycle which was much better. After the glider flights my flying did not amount to much but it was enough to make me eligable [sic] to belong to the Early Birds Organization. I served in the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps in France in WW I with Major Carl Spaatz who later became General Spaatz the first Chief of the Air Force...." Membership in The Early Birds of Aviation was limited to those who made solo airplane flights on or before December 17, 1916. Onion skin paper. Vertical fold crosses "C" in signature. Fine condition.
