RALPH BELLAMY and BUD WESTMORE
Twenty-one inch Bronze bust of the actor, sculpted by the Hollywood makeup artist
Original Art, unsigned. Bronze bust of Bellamy, 21" tall. Sculpted by Bud Westmore from a life mask also made by Westmore. RALPH BELLAMY (1904-1991) was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for The Awful Truth (1937). He won a Best Actor Tony for Sunrise at Campobello (1958), reprising his role as FDR in the film version two years later. (He portrayed Franklin Roosevelt again in the TV miniseries The Winds of War (1983). In 1986, Bellamy received an honorary Oscar "for his unique artistry and his distinguished service to the profession of acting." GEORGE HAMILTON "BUD" WESTMORE (1918-1973), the second of three generations of famed Hollywood makeup artists, prepared actors for over 450 productions, including such films as The Creature in the Black Lagoon and The Man of a Thousand Faces and TV's The Munsters. Bellamy made several monster films early in his career, including The Wolf Man and The Ghost of Frankenstein, and may have worked with Westmore on one of these sets. Westmore didn't do scary monsters only; he was make-up director on To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), and many TV crime and western series. His father (George Westmore) established the first Hollywood make-up department in 1917. Pieces missing from base and hairline. Otherwise, fine condition.
