RALPH EVINRUDE (1907-1986) was the son of Ole Evinrude, the inventor of the first successful vertical crankshaft outboard motor. Ole had formed the Evinrude Motor Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1909. Subsequently his firm formed and/or merged with others becoming in 1929, the Outboard Motor Company (OMC). By 1936, Ralph Evinrude and Steven Briggs had purchased Johnson Motors and merged it with OMC to create Outboard Marine and Manufacturing Company, which was renamed Outboard Marine Corporation in 1956. He was company president from 1936, and board chairman from 1963. Actress and band singer FRANCES LANGFORD (1914-2005) was a radio star of the 1940s, performing on her own show, with Bob Hope and paired with Don Ameche in the comedic The Bickersons. Her best film work includes Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) and The Bamboo Blonde (1945). Langford's musical repertoire featured show tunes and pop standards. Evinrude and Langford married in 1955, and spent much of their free time aboard their 118-foot yacht Chanticleer. Hildegarde Sell (1906-2005), best known as "the fabulous Hildegarde," was a popular nightclub entertainer. Toned. Lightly soiled at signature "Ralph Evinrude". Edges creased and irregularly cut. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
