RALPH FORBES and HEATHER ANGEL
Shown arm in arm during their marriage, posed in front of a mantle display of antique guns, signed in person for collector Saul Goodman and inscribed by Forbes (whose signature is rare).
Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "To Saul/Best Wishes/Ralph Forbes", "Heather Angel". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: July 16, 1940. RALPH FORBES (1896-1951), born in London in an acting family (mother Mary Forbes, sister Brenda Forbes). Breaking into silent films in 1923, he was featured in such movies as Beau Geste (1926), The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934), The Three Musketeers (1935), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939), The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (also 1939) and Frenchman's Creek (1944). Forbes was married to three actresses: Ruth Chatterton, Heather Angel and Dora Sayers. His last stage appearance was in a Broadway revivial of Shaw's You Can Never Tell (1948).  British actress HEATHER ANGEL (1909-1986) was on stage with the Old Vic at age 17. Her starring film roles included Berkeley Square (1933), The Informer (1935), The Last Of the Mohicans (1936) and five Bulldog Drummond films in the 1930s. Later, she played mostly supporting roles and provided voices for several Disney movies of the early 1950s, including Peter Pan. On TV, she appeared frequently on Family Affair (1966), and came out of retirement for a role in the TV miniseries Backstairs at the White House (1979). Forbes and Angel were married from 1934 to 1941, the second of three marriages to actors for each. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Notches at right edge. Toned with light surface creases. Corners creased and worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
