to collector Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To /Saul/Ralph Morgan".
Sepia, 8x10. Character actor Ralph Morgan (1883-1956), born Raphael
Kuhner Wuppermann, appeared in six silent films (1915-1919, 1925) before making
his sound film debut in 1931 in Honor Among Lovers. Over the next two
decades, Morgan would appear in a number of films, including
Magnificent Obsession (1935), The Life of Emile Zola (1937),
Wells Fargo (1937), Jack London (1943) and Blue Grass of
Kentucky (1950). The brother of actor Frank Morgan, Morgan was the
first President of the Screen Actor's Guild (1933) and again served as
the organization's President from 1938-1940. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a
New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the
evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers
offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity
then, to sign in fountain pen. Corners worn and creased. Lightly toned
around edges. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
