RALPH STAUB and MICKEY ROONEY, JR.
Sheet of paper with autograph notes by Oscar-nominated shorts director Ralph Staub and by Mickey Rooney, Jr., eldest son of Mickey Rooney
Autograph notes signed "Ralph Staub" in blue ink and, on verso, "Mickey Rooney Jr." in black ink. With Two unknown signatures. Blue ink notations and red pencil marks on front and verso in unknown hand. 7½x10. With b/w printed photos of Mickey, Jr.'s father Mickey Rooney and Ralph Staub affixed. Staub's note in full: "Dear George- For my money you are even better looking than John Derek" Rooney's note in full: "George! Thanks o'le man for everything ya pal Mickey Rooney Jr.". Billing himself as "The One Man Company: Writer, Director, Cameraman", RALPH STAUB (1898-1969) directed over 200 films between 1930 and 1962. The vast majority of these were from Columbia Picture's durable Screen Snapshots, a series of one-reel behind-the-scenes documentaries, on which he often served as producer, writer, editor and even narrator. Staub's work on Screen Snapshots earned him two of his three back-to-back Oscar nominations for Best Short Subject, One-Reel between 1944 and 1945. Staub also directed a number of comedies and westerns, including three of Monogram's Renfrew of the Royal Mounted movies in 1940: Danger Ahead, Yukon Flight and Sky Bandits. MICKEY ROONEY, JR., born Joseph Yule III in 1945, is the eldest son of actor Mickey Rooney, although you'd never know it by looking. At 6-feet-1-inch, Mickey, Jr. towers over his father by almost a foot. He was born to his father's second wife Betty Jane Rase. With brother Tim, Mickey, Jr. broke into show biz as one of the first Mouseketeers on The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. He has three other acting credits to his name: Hot Rods to Hell (1957), Honeysuckle Rose (1980) and the TV movie Beyond the Bermuda Triangle (1975). Lightly toned and creased. Show-through touches all signatures. Discoloration from photo and pencil mark touches Rooney's signature. Rooney's note, but not signature, cut off at left edge. Random ink stains. Otherwise in fine condition.
