RAMÓN NOVARRO
Vintage studio photo, inscribed with fountain pen
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Bill Bessette/Best wishes/Ramón Novarro". B/w, 8¼x10¼. Mexican-born actor Ramon Novarro (1899-1968), a big star of silent films in the 1920s, was billed as "the Latin Lover" for his role in The Prisoner of Zenda (1922). Also billed as "the next Valentino", Novarro played the title role in Ben Hur (1925) and starred in such films as The Student Prince (1927) before making a successful transition to "talkies" in Mata Hari (1931) with Greta Garbo. Novarro also directed some of his films and occasionally appeared in bits and cameos as late as 1960 (Heller in Pink Tights, a Louis L'Amour Western) before his brutal murder in 1968 (tortured by two hustlers who mistakenly believed he had a stash of money in his home). Corners and edges, creased and worn. Lightly toned. Ink stamps on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
