RAMÓN NOVARRO. Typed Letter signed: "Ramón Novarro", 1 p, 8½x11. No place, 1941 August 9. To ""Dear Miss Clark". In full: "Thank you ever so much for your letter and 'The Maine Woods Songster', that I appreciate and will treasure. I agree with you that a stage door is hardly conducive to serious conversation, and I thoroughly sympathize with you and understand. My secretary gave me your 'bee-autiful' poem to read, which I found most charming and amusing. Don't show it to Virgil, because Longfellow might resent your partiality to the Greeks. So you think a woman's instinct is always right. Are there no exceptions? I was led to believe that there were, but possibly I am wrong. Definitely so in this instance. Thanking you again most sincerely for your gift, and with my very best wishes for your happiness and welfare, I am Most sincerely yours." Mexican-born Novarro (1899-1968) was a big star of silent films in the 1920s who made a successful transition into talkies in the next decade. He made occasional film and TV appearances until his brutal murder. Billed as "the next Valentino", Novarro played the title role in Ben Hur (1925). Lightly creased and soiled. Vertical fold touches "N" in "Navarro." Otherwise, fine condition.
